Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Training

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Training

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) is a set of clinical interventions for the urgent treatment of cardiac arrest, stroke, and other life-threatening medical emergencies. Once completing this course, candidates will be competent to recognise and initiate the management of cardiac arrest and peri-arrest conditions. Participants will be able to apply a systematic and algorithm-based approach to managing respiratory arrest, ventricular fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia, pulseless electrical activity and asystole, stable and unstable tachycardia and bradycardia. Candidates will be able to identify and treat ischaemic chest pain, expedite the care of acute coronary syndromes and stroke, and provide effective initial care and transfer to reduce disability and death. Participants will also be able to demonstrate effective communication and leadership skills required to manage a resuscitation team.

Duration:

  • 2 Full Days

Target Audience:

The course is available to any healthcare professional registered as a medical or dental practitioner, intern, junior intern, professional nurse, or advanced life support paramedic. Participants must have a valid AHA BLS for Healthcare Provider Certificate.

Course Structure:

ACLS is a practical, simulated case-based course that enhances resuscitation skills in managing cardiac arrest and peri-arrest patients. Ideal performance is initially demonstrated via video and instructor. Learning is facilitated by extensive hands-on practice, with each participant getting several opportunities to lead their team in simulated clinical scenarios, guided by positive and constructive feedback.

 Assessment Type:

A comprehensive study package, including a 142-page American Heart Association ACLS Provider Manual, an accompanying CD, a set of algorithm memory cards, and a 97-page Handbook of Emergency Cardiovascular Care, is supplied before the ACLS course. The accompanying CD contains 107 pages of supplementary information, an evidence-based science overview video, and a pre-course self-assessment test. Upon successful course completion, candidates will receive an American Heart Association ACLS Card and Certificate.
