We recently welcomed back, Michael Stewart Straub, our Medical Instructor to South Africa after spending a month in Lubumbashi, DRC completing Medical Training for one of our clients. This course came with a new set of challenges which pushed our Projects and Operations team to think quick on their feet and change schedules at a moment’s notice. The course was first scheduled for the 10th of March 2020 but due to the COVID-19 global pandemic, Countries were forced into isolation and borders closed. The course was postponed to a later date in 2020 and ultimately postponed again to the 22th of January 2021

The course included 41 medical professionals (Doctors and Nurses), flying in from different African countries to participate in the Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ACLS) courses. The completion of these courses results in the Doctors and Nurses receiving certifications from the American Heart Associations which are valid for 2 years. These certifications need to be renewed every 2 years in order for our client and their Medical teams to remain compliant.

The course was held at the New Ikoma Lodge conference center with the 41 participants being separated in 5 different groups.

Our instructor, Michael, was too faced with a challenge that he had to overcome, namely that of the Language barrier. Most of the participants were French speaking with English being their second language, however, with every challenge comes the opportunity to overcome and become greater. With the training camp completed with a success rate of 85%, we applaud both Michael and the Doctors and Nurses for their commitment to Healthcare and to the successful running of this course.
